After some initial difficulties, the VOC established friendly ties with Golconda towards the end of the 17th century. This is evidenced by the fact that one Christmas Eve the king of Golconda visited the Dutch church in Masulipatnum. The relationship came to an abrupt end with the Mogul invasion of 1687. Golconda was occupied and the king was taken prisoner.
