Map of Bequia

Jefferys, Thomas / Sayer, Robert

Title Leupe: Bequia of Becouva, the Northernmost of the Granadilles, surveyed in 1763.

This map of Bequia is based on a survey which was conducted right after the 1763 Treaty of Paris assigned the island to Britain instead of France, but was only printed posthumously after Jefferys died in 1771. The publishers Sayer and Bennet compiled Jefferys's manuscripts and were thus able to prepare three atlases in 1775; a minor and major overview of the West Indies and a collection of maps of North America. This is one of the charts of the seventeen islands in the West Indies which were printed in both the major and minor atlas on this region. The atlases became quite popular and were reprinted many times. The map shows ports, roads, and relief.

Scale-bar of 1 Mile = 70 ‘strepen’.

North is up.
