Map of the Berbice and Canje rivers

Knapp, Jan Daniël / Leth, Hendrik de

Title Leupe: Naauwkeurige platte grond van den staat en den loop van Rio de Berbice, met derzelver plantagien in de geoctroyeerde Colonie de Berbice gelegen enz.

This general map shows the situation on the Berbice and Canje Rivers as it was just over five years after the Osterlin map (VEL1565).

In the interim period the land reclamation process, in the interest of developing new plantations, had rapidly progressed, especially along the upper reaches of both rivers.

This is a printed version of the maps of Knapp (VEL1566 and VEL1567), which includes an elaborate index of plantations at the bottom left of the map.

The Dutch National Archive collection houses four similar copies of this map, VEL1569A-D, which have not been separately included in this database.

North is top right.

Scale-bars of 2000 Rhineland Rods = 65 ‘strepen’.
