Map of Fuik Bay

Geerts, S.

Title Leupe: Plan van de Fuikhaven, met de daaraan gelegen stranden, de mond der St.Barbara's Haven enz.

This map made by S. Geerts in 1754 covers Fuik Bay with the adjacent coastline between the mouth of the Spaanse Water (‘St Barbera Haaven’, St. Barbara’s Harbour) in the west to just before the Lagún Blanku in the east. On the western side this map adjoins that of Caracas Bay (VEL647), even though the scale of the latter is almost twice as large. Apparently Geerts borrowed the shape of Fuik Bay itself from the twelve-year older chart of the engineers Esdré and Schrijver (VEL638A-B), but he used his own measurements for the rest of the topography.

North is upper left.

Scale-bars of 600 Rhineland Rods = [approximately 1 : 3,570] / [inset map] 60 Rhineland feet = [approximately 1 : 115].
