Map of Pennsylvania, sheet 2

Sayer, Robert / Bennett, Jr. / Scull, Nicholas

Title Leupe: A Map of Pennsylvania, exhibiting not only the improved parts of the Province, but also its extensive frontiers etc.

First part of a map of Pennsylvania largely based on William Scull's 1770 landmark map. Scull managed to draw the entire Pennsylvania frontier, with roads, forts and the new Mason-Dixon line included. The publishers Sayer & Bennett decided to update Scull’s work shortly after the battles of Lexington and Concord (april 1775). They improved the display of relief and added indications of latitude and longitude. As it appears, these edits served to assist the British troops operating in North America. A certain quantity of the prints were sold as part of Jeffery's American Atlas.

Scale-bar 30 English miles = 175 ‘strepen’
