Map of St. Lucia

Jefferys, Thomas / Sayer, Robert

Title Leupe: St. Lucia, done from surveys and observations, made by the English, whilst in their possession.

These detailed maps of St. Lucia and port Carenage were printed posthumously after Jefferys died in 1771. The publishers Sayer and Bennet compiled Jefferys's manuscripts and were thus able to prepare three atlases in 1775; a minor and major overview of the West Indies and a collection of maps of North America. This is one of the charts of the seventeen islands in the West Indies which were printed in both the major and minor atlas of this region. The atlases became quite popular and were reprinted many times. In addition to ports, plantations, rivers and relief the maps also shows sea depths.

Scale-bar of 2 Sea Leagues = 95 ‘strepen’.

North is up.
