Map of Wakapau Creek

Chollet, Louis / Burght, J. van der

Title Leupe: Carte du relevé de la crique de Wakapoe.

This sketch map of the Wakapau Creek (‘Wakapoe Creek’) was made during dates from the era of Governor-General Willem August Sirtema, baron of Grovestins (1791-1795).

A Warau native settlement situated slightly further upriver and just south of the Pomeroon river is indicated on the map. Forests, fields and the width of the creek have also been recorded while sailing up and down the stream.

Chollet collaborated with the surveyor J. van der Burght to create this map.

A general map of Essequibo, produced by the latter surveyor also exists; see NA 4.AANW1473.

Scale-bar of 1000 Rods = 102 ‘strepen’ [approximately 1 : 36,600].
