Map of several lots located next to the fort Nieuw Amsterdam

Heneman, Johan Christoph van

Title Leupe: Kaart van eenige landen, gelegenzoowel aan de Commewyne en Suriname, ter wederzijden van het fortres Nieuw Amsterdam, tusschen Soelen en Susanna daal.

This map shows the extent of the piece of land laying between the Nieuw Amsterdam fortress and the Soelen and Susannasdaal plantations.

This survey was conducted as the land was being sold because it was no longer deemed essential to the defence of the fortress (See VEL1840B).

The lots within the land were all measured and their borders indicated through letters.

The index on the right side of the map shows the extent of the lots.

In addition to the fortress, the practice ground for the cannons and the negorij are also depicted.

The map has been certified on 18 November 1791 by Van Heneman, who is also the maker of the map.

Taken from: missive 30 nov 1791 sub no. 606 a.

Scale of 50 Chains = 81 'strepen'.
