Map of southern India
Meurs, Weduwe van Jacob van
Map of southern India excerpted from the Atlas van der Hagen, Koninklijke Bibliotheek, The Hague, Part 4.
In 1655 the Dutch East India Company sent a delegation to Peking to plead for trade privileges from the Chinese Emperor. The delegation was accompanied by the globetrotter Johan Nieuhoff, who kept a record of events during the journey. Nieuhoff's richly illustrated travel journal was published on his return to the Netherlands. This map of the coastal region of India and Ceylon was also part of the journal.
