Padang

Padang was the base of the commander who controlled trade on the west coast of Sumatra. The town had a hospital, a church and even a small court of law to serve the needs of the surrounding trading posts. Padang's most important export product was pepper, but salt, camphor and benzoic resin, which was used as incense, were also sold here.
