Parigi

Indonesia

The VOC maintained a small outpost in Parigi on the Tomini Gulf in northern Celebes. The Company established a presence in northern Sulawesi in order to safeguard its monopoly position on the island archipelagos of Ambon and Banda. The trade in spices was not a motivating factor, as the quality of the spices available was inferior to those supplied by Ambon and Banda.
