Plan for fortifications at Willemstad

These four profiles, together with those on VEL1476A, indicate the distance between a planned bastion, lunette and place d’Armes at Willemstad. The bastion appears to be an extension of fort Amsterdam. This map is part of the report of the tour of inspection of the Dutch possessions on the Gold Coast, Sint Eustatius, Curaçao and the rest of the West Indies from January 1786 to August 1787 by the naval frigate Hector, under the leadership of Lieutenant Johann Heinrich Hottinger of the Engineering Corps and naval Lieutenant (later Captain) Albert Kikkert. This survey was the first of its kind undertaken after the war with England had ceased.

Scale-bars of 5 Rhineland rods = 137 ‘strepen’.
