Plantations along both sides of the Commewijne River

Titel Leupe : Kaart van eenige plantagien gelegen aan beide oevers van de rivier Commewyne.

This map shows the heritage of the late lord Willem Pedij de Oude; in his noble life member in the commission of police [and] criminal jurisprudence of this province.

His land along the river Commewyne is on request of his widow Catharina Marcus.

The land surveyor Jacob Hengevelt uses maps of Cornelis Boogaert from 11 March 1682, 28 April 1686 and 24 August 1691 to do so.

He notes down how the earlier land transactions of Willem Pedij de Oude have passed.

On 8 April 1722, Jacob Hengevelt already measured the new piece of land Willem Pedij obtained from Jacob Heerensen, whose additional land lays east (centre on the map) to that of Willem Pedij.

This newly acquired land (indicated by the letters EFGHIKL), originally belonged to the plantation De Nieuwe Hoop.

It laid to the northern side of the river Commewyne between the plantation Siparipabo and De Nieuwe Hoop.

On the east (top left on the map), Willem Pedij purchased a piece of land adjacent to the Biribierie swamp and the estate of Jeronimus Cliffoord on 14 February 1698.

Finally, Willem Pedij assigned a piece of land on the western side of his estate (bottom right of the map, indicated with the letters CEFG) to his heirs on 31 December 1715.
