The Nabab of Decca punishes soldiers of Assam

Anoniem / Anonymous / Marshoorn, Johannes

The Nabab of Decca punishing soldiers of Assam.

On the home journey from Batavia the Terschelling ran onto a sandbank off the coast of Bengal in 1661. Some of the crew struggled to safety on an island off the coast and managed to reach dry land a month later. After some wandering they ended up in the army of the Nabab of Decca, who was a field marshall of the Great Mogul. Heavy storms drove the armies into the interior, where the Nabab captured a number of Assam fighters. They were flogged and beheaded.
