View of the castle at Batavia, seen from the timberyard to the Waterpoort.

Pencilled on the reverse: Casteel te Batavia van den Houtkrap af te zien.

In the foreground wood is being chopped, sorted and stacked. To the right, near the storage depot, a dog and a pig. Centre back the castle wall with its opulent classical gate (Waterpoort) is shown. To the right a vantage point with flagpole (Culemborg bastion), with in front the Vijverpoort and to the extreme right the Vierkantspoort. Several boats are shown on the river.

Compare with the drawing held by the Atlas van Stolk, inv. nr. top1066.
