Map of plantations east of Mot Creek

Heneman, Johan Christoph von

Title Leupe: Kaart van de Plantagien, gelegen tusschen Wolfshagen en de Dankbaarheidt, benevens die daar achter liggen aan het Canaal van de Plantagie Standvastigheidt.

This map shows part of the area along the sea coast east of Mot Creek, most of which was only reclaimed after c. 1785.

The survey was requested by Sir W.H. van Ommeren, who wanted claim a piece of hinterland (indicated with the letters A-D and E-H) near the newly dug canal.

The lots desired by Sir van Ommeren turn out to respectively measure 307 ½ (130,2) and 480 (206,4 hectare) Surinamese acres.

Based on the map of Böhm (VEL1954), a border is drawn between the hinterland available to existing plantations and land designated for newcomers.

Even though the land desired by Sir van Ommeren lays beyond the border of hinterlands, he still receives permission to claim it.

The map was signed on 26 August 1797.

Scale of 100 Chains of 66 Rhineland feet = 205 ‘strepen’.
