This map shows the mouth of the Marowijne River. Through soundings, indications of seabanks and notations at the lower right, the map grants advice on how to enter this river. It also depicts trees and houses at the coast as reference points with short comments. It was drawn ‘all by his personal exertions’ by the Amsterdam sea captain Eldert Kraaij in April 1772. In 1777, a printed version of this work was included in Johannes van Keulen’s Nieuwe Groote Lightende Zee-Fakkel. -North is below.
