Map of land owned by B. Albinus
Desbarets, Ch. / Cooten, Hendrik van
Title Leupe: Kaart van de Plantagies toebehoorende den heer B. Albinus, geleegen op de Westpunt aan den mond van de rivier Demerary.
This map shows the land owned by B. Albinus, on the west bank of the estuary of the Demerara River.
The survey shows the owner, B. Albinus, built his plantation in accordance with the spatial plan made by the WIC land surveyor Heneman a decade earlier. Van Cooten copied the map to prove the extent of the plantation was correct, as is indicated in Surinamese acres (1 acre=0,43 hectares). Van Cooten also indicated the location of the measurement points in the annotation at the bottom left of the map.
The surrounding forests and lands are indicated, among which is a drained land assigned for construction and land belonging to the WIC.
The map was signed by the land surveyor on 16 May 1776-
Scale-bar of 300 Rhineland rods = 175 ‘strepen’.
