Agter de Steenbergen aan Baaij Fals

South Africa

'Agter de Steenbergen aan Baai Fals' ('Behind the Steenberg on False Bay') was the name of a cattle post situated on the eastern side of the Steenberg mountains. On the western side the Company maintained a second outpost named 'Aan de Steenberg'. The first mention of the 'Agter de Steenberg' settlement in VOC documents dates from 1672. The settlement served a dual function, acting both as a surveillance post and a cattle post.
