Hogeboom, Johannes

Bird's eye view of the Duurstede fortification on Saparua.

De vesting Duurstede op Saperoua, title on the reverse, to which 'Duurstede' has been added by Bodel Nijenhuis.

This drawing forms part of a set of six manuscript charts showing the construction of fortifications on the island of Saparua or Honimoa, see also Bodel Nijenhuis / Universiteitsbibliotheek Leiden, inv. nr. COLL BN 002-12-094, 095 and 006-12-024/027.

The fort was built in 1691.

Striking is the large number of pieces of artillery.
