A bird's-eye map of the island of Mauritius, featuring a large compass on the right and ships at anchor centre. The shallows have been marked on this chart.

In the deep waters of the bay five vessels lie at anchor. Written alongside are the following captions: Ian Bruins schip, De Vice Admirael, Ian Martens schip, T groot Jacht, De Melcknap.

On land we see people and trees.

Key: letters A-H, clarification in the text of 'Begin ende Voortgang', including: A. 't inkomen van den Haven bij haer Warwijck genaemt; D. Eylandt by haer Heemskerck ghenaemt.

According to the index of 'Begin ende Voortgang' the title of the picture reads: Het Eylandt de Cerne, nu Mauritius.
