Cranganur

India

Cranganore was the first place on the Malabar coast captured by the VOC from the Portuguese. The Dutch aimed to use the town as a base from which to attack and capture other bases in the region. The fleet with which the VOC attacked the Malabar coast consisted of 18 ships manned by 1050 soldiers. Because of the shortage of European soldiers, the Company seconded a garrison from Ambon for the assault.
