Design for fort at the west bank of the Demerara estuary

Design for fort at the west bank of the Demerara estuary

Title Leupe: Plan van een fort aan den mond der Rivier Demerary.
This map forms part of Johan Christoph Heneman’s project plans for the Demerara defences of 1774-1775.
The maps under VEL1554-7 show two forts designed for the river mouth.
These two forts feature on his survey on his overview under VEL660.
This is plan VII for a fort on the western bank at the mouth of the Demerara River.
A profile of the fortress has been drawn below on the map.
The Phoenix Plantation lays to the south (left of the map) of the planned fortress.
Also see VEL1556, an edited version of this map.
Scale-bars of 20 Rhineland Rods = 141 ‘strepen’ [ca. 1 : 775] [profile] 60 feet [or] 5 Rhineland Rods = [approximately 1 : 175].
