Design for a new main guard building with a clocktower

Böhm, Johann Gottfried Rabanus

Title Leupe: "Plan en doorsnede van een toren in het fort Zeelandia."

This is a design for a new guardhouse with a clocktower in Fort Zeelandia. This plan was completed in 1789-1790. The striking turret can still be recognized on views of Paramaribo until the middle of the nineteenth century. However, the date of its demolition is not known precisely. The drawing was sent to the Republic by Governor Wichers in March 1789; Johann Gottfried Böhm has been suggested by some as the possible author.

At the rear side the following is written: "No. 5B, Register 17, part 1, folio 87." Gemerkt Depôt des cartes, plans et journaux de la Marine.”

Taken from: letter of Governor-General Wichers from 20 March 1789.

Scale-bar of 24 feet = [approximately 1 : 60].
