King Jayawira is murdered by the Portuguese

Waasbergen, Johannes Janssonius / Anoniem / Anonymous

King Jayawira is murdered by the Portuguese.

Jayawira wished to marry Dona Catharina (see the remarks alongside Koninklijke Bibliotheek, inv. nr. 189 A 6 part II, p. 10), but the Portuguese refused permission for the wedding. Subsequently Jayawira hatched plans to attack the Portuguese, who held almost the whole of Ceylon. The Portuguese general Lopez gained wind of the plans and ordered Jayawira be killed.
