Map of West Point Bay

Serz, Christoph Gottlieb Friedrich

Title Leupe: Plan van de Westpunt.

In 1742, the engineers Carel Gustaaf Schrijver and Godfried Carel Esdré designed various planned batteries or retrenchments for West Point and Knip Bay. Engineer Serz’s map seen here shows the actual situation in 1776 in these bays. In that year, open batteries were still under construction. The designation Boschieter Huijs (Gunners’ House), which Serz mentions on the map, refers to the accommodation for the artillerymen.

North is left.

Scale-bar of 60 Rhineland Rods = [approximately 1 : 1,420].
