Map of coastal area around Mot Creek

Böhm, Johann Gottfried Rabanus

Title Leupe: Kaart van de Plantagien, gelegen aan beide oevers van de Motkreek, van Zeezigt en Dageraad tot aan Zee.

This map shows part of the area between the sea coast and the Cottica east of the Tapoeripa Canal, most of which was only reclaimed after c. 1785.

The survey concerns two lots: one belonging to Sir Gomarre (indicated with the letters A-D), and the other Sir Sjaak (indicated with the letters E-G and C).

The first lot (the Zeezigt plantation) turns out to measure 500 Surinamese acres (215 hectares) and the second 296 acres (127,28 hectares).

The lots are still surrounded by nature; for example a blaka-beri forest grows between the land of Sir Sjaak and the Mot creek.

The Dageraad and Dankbaarheid plantations as well as the newly dug canal lay to the west (above on the map) of the lots.

The map was signed on 26 May 1794.

A copy of this map, VEL1960A, is not separately included in the AMH.

Scale of 100 Chains of 66 Rhineland feet = 125 ‘strepen’.

Taken from: missive of the Gov.-Gen. on 26 May 1794 sub. no. 852.
