Map of an expedition between the Cottica and Marowijne

Georgi, Christiaan Samson

Title Leupe: Plan van de Passage van Cottica door Coermoetebo en Wana, naar de Marawina enz.

This relatively early map of part of the lower course of the Marowijne, drawn by artillery lieutenant Christian Samson Georgi, shows the results of the expedition this lieutenant made in 1758 on the orders of Governor Crommelin.

This expedition ran between the upper reaches of the Cottica and the Marowijne.

The sought-for link between these two major water courses could be made via the Coermotibo, a tributary of the Cottica, and Wane Creek, which flowed into the Marowijne.

Creeks and 'Indian villages' are indicated.

Scale of 4 German miles = 56 ‘strepen’.
