Map of the plantations around Mot Creek

Helleday, Adrianus Hendricus

Title Leupe: Generale Projectkaart van de Motkreek, houdende tien stuks landerijen, gelegen aan beide oevers, beginnende aan de overzyde van de Overtoom tot aan Zee.

This map shows part of the area between the sea coast and the Cottica east of the Tapoeripa Canal, most of which was only reclaimed after c. 1785.

Adrianus Hendricus Helledaij’s project plan shows the land to be assigned along Mot Creek, which then had no direct link to the Tapoeripa Canal.

Ten planned lots are depicted, all measuring around 500 Surinamese acres (215 hectare).

The Clemensburg and Zeewijk plantation lay to the south (above on the map) and the Brandwagt post to the north (below on the map) of the lots.

The project was executed more or less as shown here.

The map was signed on 23 April 1785.

Scale of 100 Chains of 66 Rhineland feet = 106 ‘strepen’.
