Paponette

India

Paponetty was the name of a province comprising the coastal strip between Chetway and Cranganore. Paponetty was ceded to the VOC under the terms of the peace made with the Zamorin of Calicut in 1717. The Company subsequently cultivated large tracts of hitherto unused land. Around 1724 the VOC decided to start growing cardamom and turmeric. Later, in 1759, a redoubt and a grain warehouse were built.
