Reception for Dutch sailors on the river Gaba in West Africa.

This plate is taken from a French edition of the 'Itinerario' by Jan Huygen van Linschoten. The illustration itself is however a copy of a plate contained in 'Indiae Orientalis', part II, by the brothers De Bry of Frankfurt.

According to P.A. Tiele's 'Mémoire bibliographique', this edition was not printed in Amsterdam but by the Frankfurt publisher of De Bry's travels.

The text makes no mention of when the voyage occurred.

The river named as Gaba could be the Gabon river in Gabon.
