Two camels with their keepers

Anoniem / Anonymous / Nawaya

Two camels with their keepers.

The camels are of the 'Arabian Mecca single hump' variety; that is to say dromedaries. The male is five years old, the female four. They were sold to a circus, which showed them to great acclaim in Edo, Osaka and Kyoto. It was in view of this popularity that this print was made.

The publisher, Nawaya, was based in Katsuyami, Nagasaki.

Translation: Two camels, transported by a Dutch ship in the 6th month of the year Hunsei 4 [July 1821].
