View of the Diestpoort at Batavia, anno 2002 the Jl. Pintu Kecil, Jakarta.

A little to the left of centre a horse is depicted bathing in the river. Just behind it is a bastion on an island in the river. The bastion was built as an added protection against a possible threat from the nearby Chinese quarter. The Chinese population was rounded up and housed here in 1740 after the Chinese uprising and the massacre that followed. The area between the walls and the Chinese quarter was deliberately kept unoccupied.
