Indrapura

Indonesia

Indrapoera was situated on the West Coast of Sumatra between Padang and Benkoelen. Around 1659 the VOC set up an office here. The VOC signed contracts with the ruler of Indrapoera, which gave it the sole rights to all pepper harvested in the region. In 1702 the settlement was overrun and the people massacred, but in 1716 the VOC established a new lodge after having negotiated a new contract with the local ruler.
