Uduvil

Sri Lanka

In the wake of the Portuguese Catholic mission the VOC introduced its own Protestant missionaries in the latter half of 17th century. In doing so the Company made grateful use of the Portuguese churches. With a congregation numbering around 1,000, Uduvil, once known as Oudewil, was a comparatively large community. The compilers of this database have not as yet come across a source in the literature that identifies this location as a VOC post.
