Bommelshoek

South Africa

Bommelshoek was one of the many VOC posts for livestock in the eastern Cape. It later became known as 'Welbeloond'. Pieter van Dam, who recorded the history of the Company around 1701, notes that in the year 1693, Welbeloond was manned by two Company employees and one slave. The post numbered a flock of 1,000 sheep.
