Map of the Berbice and Canje rivers

Ottens, Reinier / Ottens, Jousua

Title Leupe: Nieuw gemeten kaart van de Colonie Berbice met derzelver plantagien en de namen der bezitters.

This general map shows the situation on the Berbice and Canje Rivers as it was just over five years after the Osterlin map (VEL1565).

In the interim period the land reclamation process, in the interest of developing new plantations, had rapidly progressed, especially along the upper reaches of both rivers.

This is a printed version of the maps of Knapp (VEL1566 and VEL1567), which includes an overview of nearby provinces in a small map at the bottom left as well as an elaborate index of plantations at the bottom of the map.

Three similar copies of this map, VEL1568A-C, have not been separately included in this database.

North is top right.

Scale-bars of 4000 Rhineland Rods = 157 ‘strepen’.
