Floor plan of the upper floor of fort Nassau

Knapp, Jan Daniël

Title Leupe: Plans, platte gronden, opstanden voor gebouwen in het fort Nassau.

This unsigned ground plan of Fort Nassau gives a good impression of the situation during or shortly after the total renovation of 1735-1740. On the basis of the compass rose, the scale bar and the handwriting, the plan can be attributed to the engineer and surveyor Jan Daniel Knapp. It was sent to the Republic in 1739. The main attention is given to the garrison and posts inside the fortress as shown here from the upper floor.

North is lower right.

Scale-bar of 5 Rhineland Rods = [approximately 1 : 125].
