Map of planned batteries near the mouth of the Suriname and Commewijne rivers

Müller, G.J.

Title Leupe: Plan der fortress Nieuw Amsterdam, beneffens twee geprojecteerde Battereien A, B.

This map shows the planned construction of the redoubts Purmerend and Leyden, which dates the map to the early eighteenth century.

The mapmaker shows how the redoubts complement the Amsterdam fortress and how all mutually protect each other.

The indicated fire ranges are drawn with a straight arrow per cannon and indicate how access to the Commewijne and Suriname Rivers by hostile ships is prevented.

Scale of 100 Rhineland Rods = 115 ‘strepen’.
