Defence plan for Suriname

Robaté, Antooni

Title Leupe: Plan van verdediging der rivieren Suriname en Commowyne enz.

These drawings by N. Robaté are part of a series constituting a plan for the improvement of Surinam's defences. This is his take on the ‘Obstruction Plan’, that is the closure of the estuary of the Surinam River in time of war, which was worked out in detail during and after the Fourth Anglo-Dutch War, based on a first improvised plan dating from 1781-1782. In general, his plan corresponds to the other plans made for this line of obstruction, but N. Robaté does add profiles of the surrounding fortifications which refer to his more specific defence plans featured in his elaborate report found under the same inventory number.

Scale-bar of 20 Rhineland rods.
