Plan of the redoubt Leiden

Bernhardi, Heinrich Ludwig Ditloff

Title Leupe: Plan van de nieuw aangelegde redout teegens over de forteress Nieuw Amsterdam, op de hoek van de rivieren Surinaeme en Commewyne, begonnen in de maand October 1755.

This is Bernhardy’s elaborate, final ground plan of the redoubt Leiden. It reflects the state of affairs at the start of construction in 1755. The original design which Bernhardy likely drew on the basis of an earlier design of Andries Lodewijk Calvi (see VEL2052), is more or less fully executed. The moat, for instance, is dug, the path to the Suriname River maintained at the exact same spot and the flat triangle shape of the redoubts is still projected as the in earlier version.

Scale-bar of 100 Rhineland feet = [approximately 1 : 215].
