Bentota

Sri Lanka

Bentota was a small VOC settlement situated at the mouth of the Bentota River, on Ceylon's western coast. The Bentota River acted as a natural boundary between two administrative regions of the VOC: the command post at Galle and the Colombo dessavonij. In Bentotta and nearby Ambalangoda there were several limekilns where coral was processed into lime, subsequently used as a raw material in the manufacture of bricks.
