Unawatuna is situated on the opposite side of the bay to Galle. Unawatuna and environs were of key importance to the fresh water supply for Galle. The governor commissioned a country residence named 'Nooit Gedacht' to be built there in 1735. A literary source identifying this location as a VOC post has not yet been traced.
