Map of Borselen Island

Kanne, Carl Christiaan

Title Leupe: Plan van het eiland Borselen.

This unsigned map can be attributed to engineer Carl Christiaan Kanne, on the basis of general style, the compass indicator and other features. It was apparently made during his posting abroad in 1779 as inspector of Company buildings.

The plan shows Kanne’s own project plan of 1779, which was , much simpler and certainly cheaper than the one commissioned by Commander Van Schuylenburgh earlier.

The northern quarter of the island was set aside for military purposes and the northern point was earmarked for a battery.

This battery is shown in profile here as are details on the distance between the outer walls.

An overview is shown on VEL1563A.

North is lower left.

Scale-bar of 50 Rhineland Rods = [approximately 1 : 2,080].
