Map of the extension of the Worsteling Jacobs Plantation

Greenwald, S.

Title Leupe: Kaart van de Plantagie de Worsteling Jacobs enz.

This map depicts the survey of the extension of the Worsteling Jacobs Plantation. This piece of land is indicated with the letters B-E and was originally measured by R. de Meester. A new indication of its extent and landscape is given here. The former is noted in Surinamese acres (1 acre = 0,43 hectares) and the latter in numerous annotations. In the middle of the extension there are forests and savanne, but the creek described by de Meester was not to be found. The main part of the plantation (coloured lightgreen) has a savanne in the south (lower left on the map) which is used for the plantations’ settlement. Buildings there are referenced to and a partial index is given at the lower left corner of the map. In addition, carriage trails, canals and cliffs are drawn. The map was signed on 18 January 1779.

Scale-bar of 100 chains of 66 Rhineland feet = 185 ‘strepen’.
