Map of the Essequibo River

Maas, Abraham

Title Leupe: "Kaart van "de rivier Issekebe (Essequebo) met de plantages, sooals die was anno 1708 voor de invasij der Fransen."

This decorated yet decayed map shows the mouth of the Essequebo River with the plantations situated there. Numerous local animals like the anteater are shown in the middle with two local inhabitants holding up two colonial coats and arms. The draft of this map appears to have been produced after 1708 by Maas to create an impression of the state of the colony after the French invasion. Since this decorated version of the maps is dedicated to Sir Samuel, he likely requested Maas to produce a more ornamented version of his draft.
