Plan for closing the estuary of the Surinam river in times of war

Wollant, Johann Friedrich Ferdinand

Titel Leupe: Idëal plan van defensie der riviere Suriname enz.

This map shows the ‘line of obstruction’, that is, the blockade of the estuary of the Surinam river, as it was elaborated during and after the Fourth Anglo-Dutch Wars, based on initial ideas conceived in 1781-1782.

This map focuses on the line of blockading ships and gunboats between the redoubts Purmerend and Leyden, in an attempt to find the optimal line.

Mud banks and mangroves are indicated in order to show possible landing sites.

Schaal van 200 Roeden à 12 voeten = 225 strepen.
