Porto

Indonesia

Poorto, situated on the west coast of the island of Saparua, boasted a small fort by the name of Delft. Built in 1656, it had six pieces of artillery. Not infrequently the smaller VOC settlements would comprise a fortified blockhouse and several simple buildings built within a stone perimeter wall. The houses of the local population would be situated outside the walls. In Poorto the Chinese population busied itself with woodcraft.
