Ponnani

India

Ponani lay at the mouth of the river of the same name. Under the terms of a treaty with the Zamorin of Calicut, the mighty Hindu ruler on the Malabar Coast, the VOC appointed a resident in Ponnani in 1663. The local VOC lodge was constructed using mud and palm leaves and needed to be rebuilt annually. In 1729 a new lodge was built.
