Fort

Kajoe Meirah, fort

Indonesia

The settlement of Kajoe Meirah is also known as Kalamatta and lay to the south of Ternate City. The town boasts a fort that was probably built by the Dutch in 1609. The castle's construction is based on an irregular square with four pointed bastions. Construction blueprints still extant indicate that towards the end of the 18th century the VOC had plans to build a new castle. The fort was finished when the British overran Ternate.
